**Household Size: Determined by how taxes are filed, not by who actually lives in the house. A nineteen year old living in their parents’ home, but filing their own taxes is a household of one. The remaining family creates a second, unique household.
**Less Than “Minimum” (<138%) Income Range: Household will qualify for Medi-Cal, California’s State Health Plan.
**Within “Minimum to Maximum” (>138% – <400%) Income Range: Household will qualify for financial assistance, also known as the financial subsidy.
**Greater Than “Maximum” (>400%) Income Range: Household will not qualify for the financial assistance.
**Financial Assistance: Determined on a “sliding-scale” basis which means the greater the household income, the less you will receive in financial assistance.
**Also Known As: The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA), Affordable Care Act (ACA), Obamacare, The Marketplace and Covered California all refer to the same thing; the new United States Health Care System.
